Compliance and Data Governance

This page explains how connected account access works in MoneyWise, what data may be requested, how that access supports the product, and the role Akahu plays in the connection flow.

Why MoneyWise Requests Account Access

MoneyWise may request access to connected financial account information so users can view account activity, monitor balances, understand spending patterns, and receive automated financial insights without needing to enter everything manually.

What Access May Be Requested

Where supported, MoneyWise may request permission to access account details, balances, and transaction history needed to power account summaries and ongoing financial visibility features. Access requested through the connection flow should match the features being used and be clearly presented to the user before consent is given.

Ongoing Access and User Control

If you authorise an ongoing connection, MoneyWise may continue to receive updated account information until you revoke access. Users can manage or disconnect connected account access through the product settings, and account access can also be revoked when a user closes their MoneyWise account.

Role of Akahu

Akahu is New Zealand's open finance platform. MoneyWise uses Akahu to help securely connect eligible financial accounts and receive authorised data from those connections. Akahu manages the hosted authorisation flow used when a user connects or reconnects a supported account.

Transparency, Revocation, and Privacy Expectations

MoneyWise is designed to respect user consent, provide visibility over connected accounts, and support revocation when access is no longer wanted. Our privacy and data handling practices are intended to align with New Zealand privacy expectations, including limiting retention of connected account data to the period it is reasonably required.
